Nissan reacts to serious problems with the Launch Control of its iconic supercar GT-R that have been reported on numerous news sites, forums and blogs.
According to Edmunds InsideLine, Nissan insiders have confirmed the 2010 Series II model of the GT-R will no longer be equipped with the Launch Control feature that is said to have caused a series of transmission breakdowns, much to the distress of the owners about how those cases were handled by Nissan.
Nissan stated that the repeated use of the launch control in combination with a turned-off VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) would void the warranty, and thus those broken transmissions - no less than a $20k repair per vehicle - weren't covered.
When asked about rumors that the Launch Control feature would be canceled, a high-ranking Nissan exec was quoted saying: "It's gone, we just don't want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore. It'll make the 2009 GT-R really special. It'll be the only R35 with launch control."
